Quinoa is gluten-free, high in protein and one of the few plant foods that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids (making it a complete protein source).
It is also high in fiber, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants.
Although amazing, it's worth mentioning that it's not grown locally here in South Africa, and has such we've noticed many people don't digest it properly. Our gut bacteria and enzymes don't seem to break it up as much as in Europe and other countries where it grows naturally and is part of the regular diet over there. We instead suggest SORGHUM - which is just as nutritious as quinoa, FAR cheaper, and is grown right here in SA!
