A local superfood, wild-harvested in Limpopo. Mesquite pods — "white carob" — were among the earliest known foods of prehistoric peoples; ours are dried at low temperature and ground whole into a naturally sweet, caramel-toned powder.
It's a wonderful low-GI way to sweeten with more character: rich in fibre and plant protein (including L-lysine), plus calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc. Stir into smoothies, breakfast oats, snack bars or cookies wherever you'd otherwise reach for sugar.
